Digg:an effective tool in social media to make a groundswell

Before reading the book, I known nothing about the website Digg. In chapter 9,  just like the IdeaExchange that salesforce company used to find out the customers' priorities in their websites and the most popular request, Digg allows visitors to vote entries up or down based on what they like. Then I was interested in Digg and tried to figure out what it is and  how it operate.

According to Wikipedia,

Digg is a community-based popularity website with an emphasis on technology and science articles, recently expanding to a broader range of categories such as politics and entertainment. It combines social bookmarking, blogging, and syndication with a form of non-hierarchical, democratic editorial control.

I am not sure how to use it in a right way, but it is clear that with most social networks it is all about having the right content in your posts and a topic that people really digg. The  more people who digg it the more traffic you will get, it both looks and sounds rather simple.  http://digg.com/video/the-family-from-bbc-interview-video

So you can see , there are several labels below every posted videos, then you can find what you like simply through these labels . Like this video above, it use funny and wsj.com. Both of them are the links which can open anther website after you click them.

Digg is a useful social media and it works when people view content and then"digging" it if they think it's cool. This almost like Facebook share button and it is possible for your moment to go viral if  other diggers like what you are sharing.Digg is a great way to get people interested in your website and if a user likes what you have to say they may subscribe or "follow "you on other social media sites such like twitter and Facebook .

Also,it has been known for people to write blog articles that get shared extensively which not increase your audience but also advertised your other social media sites——it is  win win !

  1. HI Xiaoyu,
Thanks for your introduction of Digg! I believe Digg is a great place for generating groundswell. And definitely, these labels will be much easier for people to find out what is going on around the world. I want to try it immediately after I read your blog!
